Question Rocker bolts ...... go figure

It seems to be the things i would have never suspected that keep popping up on my engine rebuild... Took me several weeks to find a valve stem seal that would fit and now I have a rocker hold down bolt that refuses to grab threads... its the passenger side oil feed bolt that is skinny down for the oil feed, the dam thing will not grab ??????, I can tell this was an issue on its last build because they used a skinny washer allowing for some more thread ......... What ever shall I do...... does anyone sell these bolts ? a quick search doesn't look good....

First, make sure the threads in the head aren't stripped. If they are you'll need to install a Heli-coil or similar thread repair.
If the threads are okay you'll need this bolt

C1AZ-6A527-A

Oroville Ford-Lincoln-Mercury, Oroville, CA has 3 (800) 655-6720
Prarie Motors, Stanley, ND has 1 (701) 628-3855
B.F. White Motors, Stanton, TX has 3 (432) 756-3321
Matlock Ford, Franklin, IN has 1 (800) 987-3673
Anderson Ford, Bellefontaine, OH has 1 (937) 592-6010
Feyer Ford, Edenton, NC has 1 (252) 482-2144
Klimesh Motor Sales, Calmar, IA has 3 (563) 562-3241

I coldn't locate any of the 372202-S flat washers that go under the bolt.

Thanks for the quick reply mike.... it does look like there is a small piece of thread in the hole that is chipped out .... But this bolt was in there when I removed it, so there has to be hope ...

If the thickness of a single washer makes your threads engage, there's a problem. You would want several threads to engage, one washer is probably good for only one or two threads at best. As Mike said, check threads, also check bolt length. Keep us posted....

It wouldn't be cheap, but with the proper measurements a machinist could probably make you a set.

The overall dimensions for the bolt listed in the parts catalog is 3/8"-16 X 3 19/64". Unfortunately, it doesn't list the diameter or length of the necked down area of the bolt's shank, and that's the whole point of the bolt .

Thumbs up Got'er done

Well long story short, the original threads were just to worn to hold the torque required for the rocker shaft, which is only 40-45lbs.... Thank goodness I had the heli-coil kit from my header bolt adventure at the beginning of this project ... (same size) The second heli-coil adventure was much faster and only took about 45 min tops...... I plugged the oil passage with grease and kept cycling between my magnet and the lil shop vac to keep the filings at bay.... heres a pic of the finished product and she held like a champ on my final round of torque to 40 pounds......

By the way Mike I did order some oil passage bolts from Oroville Ford if anyone ever reading this thread needs one...... there a rare find...
