2005, F350, 6.0, Fan clutch

I had the EGR, delete done on my truck. Fan has always made noise, checked all pulleys they're ok. Definitely sound from Fan. Fan spins freely when truck is off. Im thinking new Fan clutch assembly is in needed. Is Motorcraft the only one that's good to use for a replacement. I don't want any refurbished parts. Also what about the sensor. Does that go along with the unit. Can anyone help.

Yes motorcraft for sure. Check ebay you might find a good deal. Definitely stay away from Dorman fan clutches... I found out the hard way.. lol.

2005,f350 6.0 super duty, fanclutch

Ok. Now that you say use Motorcraft, there is a heavy duty version for plowing. I have horses and tow. What's the best fanclutch out there, would you still go with Motorcraft?Another question. I had the EGR delete done and need to install a chip to get rid of the check engine light. What are some recommendations. Need it for towing and maybe a little more power. Thanks

The plowing clutch won't help towing at all. It just has a higher fan speed when at the slowest setting, to make up for the reduced airflow with a plow in front of your grille combined with the slow speeds of plowing parking lots. I wouldn't get the plow clutch unless you plow.
Hayden fan clutches are the same as Motorcraft, but without the label. When I got one a year ago, rockauto had the best price delivered.

Check with FICMRepair.com - FORD Powerstroke 6.0 FICM Repair, PHP Tuning and Truck Parts
They can get you a Ford part as a fair price and it a real Ford part with the warrantee.

Also the clutch assembly will have the speed sensor in it.
It a fluid type clutch and should have some resistance when you try to turn by hand.
But it should not free spin on you.

I have the same issue, right after you turn off engine, you can hear what sounds like a bearing with sand in it rolling around until the fan blade stops. Fan works 90% of time, the only time I knew it needed attention was when towing my trailer up steep arizona hills and when it engages at 100%, it was making some squealing noise, and not the belt kind... other than that it works for just normal driving with no issues...
I'm curious about the difference between the Hayden and Motorcraft, especially since its about a $100 difference!

Are you sure that is not the turbo spooling down?

Wasn't there an issue with certain years where you unplug the EGR valve and the fan doesn't control right? I think it was a problem of the fan NOT engaging, which wouldn't explain your issue.

I replaced my Motorcraft that was on its way out with the Hayden 3261. As far as I could tell on the bench and from how it's been working, they were the same part but with Motorcraft printed on one. The p/n info was all printed in the same type of font with the same type of printer on both clutches.
See my thread, especially the post I'm linking directly to, for pics:

Look at the circle just inside all the fins - you'll see a word like "VISTRONIC" and some part numbers 180° away from that that look identical.
Scroll up one post from the one I linked directly for a minute and a half video I took showing how similar the two are.

Hayden is the OEM manufacturer, and one of, if not the biggest name in fan clutches in the world.

When you buy local look inside the box before you pay,see if any wet looking areas inside box, means clutch was not laid right and lost some slcn oil content, it does not hold alot so a small amount lost may cause not to work right or lockup full, yep new can do it too, think it falls under qlty cntrol issues.

That was a problem with the old ones too. I replaced a fan clutch on my
1988 Ranger and the box had a big sticker with lay and store this way arrows on it.
