So I headed out for a camping trip with my 2005 6.0 excursion pulling my toy hauler. About 30min from home check gauge light comes on and my coolant temp is about pegged. Sct gauge shows ect and eot sitting between 240-245 degrees. I immediately turn off the a/c and temps quickly start falling back to normal. So I ended up taking it easy especially pulling up the hills and made it to my destination. It seems like my fan isn't engaging like it should or used to climbing up hilld. So I checked the easiest things first like fuses and wires but all looks good. So y'all think my clutch fan is going out? Have any of y'all used bullet proof diesels 7.3 mechanical fan with the 6.0 and their water pump? Once I get back home I can get a more intense look at everything.
Without question it is unless you don't have your EGR valve plugged in.
I myself are having clutch fan issues on my truck and an going to the BPD mechanical clutch fan when I get some cash as its much cheaper than getting a new 6.0 fan from Ford or even Oreilly.
I replaced my egr cooler and oil cooler last year and cleaned my egr valve then. Unless it's dirty again. But I made it home and cleaned up y camper and I decided to try the a/c while taking the camper to storage and of course my fan came on while pulling up a small hill so I don't know what's up with it
Toreador's reference is to the electrical connection being plugged in to the egr valve.
Also, check for charging where the wires to the fan clutch go over the fan blade. Using an ODB gauge yoy can monitor your fan speed to verify it is responding to varing speeds vs just spinning
Yeah my wires are all good going to my egr valve. But also I have noticed my a/c doesn't blow as cold as it used to and after I shut off the engine after running the a/c it makes the hissing noise like its trying to stabilize pressure
That's what I was thinking. I'm wandering if I should just replace the a/c compressor clutch while I'm in there with the radiator out. I think I will bite the bullet and go with the bullet proof fan and water pump I've read no negative comments about it and everybody seems to love it. I do tow a lot and live in Colorado where some of the hills are pretty steep. But I'm also worried about the winter if it will keep y engine to cold during those months.
