so I was able to locate a 7/16 - 14 helicoil kit however it does not indicated what size drill bit to use before using the 29/64 tap provided. anyone know the specific drill bit I should use before tapping?
A little confused here. You say you got a 29/64" tap?
The Heli-coil kit should've come with a 29/64" drill bit and that's what you use to enlarge the hole for the Heli-coil tap.
Use the 29/64 drill bit included and then insert the helicoil per instructions. You will need a set of small needle nose to break off the install tab when done.

its a 29/64 tap that is included. I found out the correct drill bit for a 29/64 tap is 31/64

I'm still confused. The Heli-coil kit should have come with the correct 29/64" drill bit and the special oversized Heli-coil tap.
For a 7/16"-14 Heli-coil, you should drill the hole to 29/64" and then cut new threads with the tap.
Where did you get the 31/64" size from?
The standard drill size to tap a 7/16"-14 hole is 23/64".
My bad the tap is indeed a 7/16 and was labeled 29/64 as the correct drill bit to use. Helicoil went in successfull and the new striker is working like it should. Thanks for the guidance, much appreciated.
