Just started doing this today... If I don't hold the key turned till just before the resistance point the truck dies as if I shut it off. In other words I can't just turn the key and let go when it kicks, I have to hold it and let go carefully and not let it spring back from the ignition's resistance or else the truck immediately dies. Any ideas?
Take about an hour or so. The switch removes by taking a screw driver and pushing it counter-clock wise against its retaining ring to unscrew it. There should be three indents in the retaining ring to do that with. Then swap in the new switch.
I cant get a picture of the wiring right now because I'm at work. If I remember I will take a pic of the switch and wires for you when I get home.
I forget it the connections are soldered or not that will make it a little more lengthy of a process to change the switch out.

Nope, no solder, literally plug and play. If I remember correctly, the biggest part is swapping the lock cylinder, but since you have the key, that makes it much easier.
Here's a youtube video explaining it.
I'll just add there is an emergency backup. Get a spare ignition resistor wire and rig it with alligator clips. It may be a stock item at some AP stores. Jump coil positive to battery positive with the resistor wire and you will be able to run. Just don't forget to pull it when you stop.
I carry one behind the seat now after a new ignition switch had intermittent "open" and put me on the side of the road.
