ignition switch

Hey fellas, I just got a new Echlin ignition switch for my 1979 f250 4x4 , and a new key cylinder. I can't seem to get the key cylinder to install in the ignition switch properly. I can get it all the way in but it doesn't seem to have the spring back from start to run. Anybody on here know the secret?

There is the little hole in the face of the switch and as I remember you have to stick a small piece of wire in that hole and it releases the catch and actually lets the switch go in or come out (I think this will help you.)

Well it the switch I have has an extra position. My original one has acc, off, on , start. The new one seems to have one more position between off and on. Is it possible that there is more than one switch? Bill?
