Sticker Shock

I've been seeing a lot of high priced truck figures mentioned so I made a direct price comparison with a 2017 and the 2013 I built and ordered off the Ford site. Using the same options as my 2013 that listed for 47600 the new 2017 was 51200, that's 3600 over four years or 900 a year (7.56%), that looks a little high but it's a compete redesign. Without looking real close the options are about the same but there a one or two new ones I would add, there are as lot of new ones that can really run the price up fast so of you don't need them leave them off.

I always enjoy using the Inflation Calculator. $1637 of that amount shows as inflation, so about $2k for the improved features in redesign cost. The behind the scene numbers are harder to calculate, such in expected rebates. If nothing else, 0% becomes more and more expensive each year for the manufacturers to cover between the higher amounts being financed as well as the cost of borrowing money creeping up.

I used every debate available, even 1K for using Ford credit and payed it off one month later.

I would say that if you want a 2017 wait a while for rebates.

Wait for the 0% next summer or whenever it comes out. There are never rebates better than 0% deal when you crunch the numbers. Even if you buy cash, you're probably better financing and investing the money.

Compared my 2013 Platinum that I ordered to a 2017 Platinum and the difference is $9,890! The higher optioned trucks is where they seem to have a significantly higher mark-up.

Toys are expensive but the high markup items can be a good bargaining point because of the high profit margin built into them. When I first built my truck it didn't have the $959 (at that time) nav system, I used it for the last bit of leverage and got it for $250.

My dad bought 4 new Fords in 73. 2 F150 two tone 302's, and 1 F250 Camper special with most opts, & 351 for a package deal of $10,000 for all 3. He bought a F600 Stake truck for $5,600. Mom bought a 73 Fleetwood Brougham D'Elegance for $10,500.

We all watch the engineering and design teams produce better and more capable trucks and we all are willing to pay for these improvements. Too bad Ford hasn't invested at least part of this increased cost in project management and procurement. They seem to have taken the advantages of just in time delivery without safeguards to their supply chain and quality control over the implementation team and squandered it on advertising and hype. One would think the F-150 experience would have at least taught them a few lessons. The true sticker shock is on the door jambs, if they ever arrive.
