Strange noise from upper windshild area

16 F250 4 door diesel short bed purchased 1/16.

This started to happen around May 23. It takes going around 70 with just the right cross wind to have it happen. I did a video while it was happening and took these two photo's after I stopped. This was to show to my sales guy at the dealership. He had the service guys view the video and they could not come up with any reason for this.

Video:

The noise was starting to get worse and happen more often then wouldn't you know it, I get a long crack in the windshield that forces me to have to replace it. That was on Wed and it has been a few days now and I think it is fixed.

I posted this in case someone else has this same issue. As you can see I have no racks and the truck is stock.

My '12 used to do the same thing for the first year or so after I bought it. It was the worst with a bad cross wind. It seems to have resolved itself since it hasn't done it in years. Not sure why. I have a buddy that has a '13 and his does the same thing too.

EDIT: Are those your factory windshield wipers? Only reason I ask is because that is the only thing I changed on the windshield area. I switched to Bosch Icons and they are a similar aero style. I just don't know exactly where the sound/vibration was coming from.

Looks like your wiper blade arms are indexed wrong too. At rest mine sit about 1.5-2" above the rubber seal at the bottom of the windshield. I imagine that can cause some noise eventually.

Heck, my 01 has done that since I bought it back in '11.

Mine is due to the windshield sliding downward in its frame and leaving a gap at the upper edge. Couldn't actually see it (without removing the glass trim) until it slipped enough so that it leaked water over the passenger side.

One of these days, I'll replace the windshield and solve it permanently. In the meantime, a tube of polyurethane caulk has kept it at bay.

I've seen it before, it's a bad spot in the urethane that glues the windshield in, new window new urathane and noise is gone.

Known problem. Take it to glass shop. They probably have repaired 100s of these.

I wish ford would fix this. It's not like they don't know about it. I know a lot of people with this same noise including me.

The problem is the machine applying the urethane and setting the windshield not the design.

My wife used to have a car that did the same thing. After months and months of trying to figure it out, I found that a thin strip of the protective coating they applied to the windshield trim before assembly had been left on the vehicle. At certain speeds that thin strip of film acted like a reed and would vibrate. Think of it like when you were kid, you'd put a blade of grass between the lower part of your 2 thumbs and blow through it.

When replacing a windshield be real sure the tech knows what the hell they are doing. Last one I had put in by a nationally franchised company, he screwed it up pretty good. He didnt install the rubber gasket correctly. The one that tucks into the perimeter of the windshield on a 2011. This will cause the kazoo effect too. Guy was a real hack. Urethane glue everywhere broke the plastic grill under the wipers, ripped the roof rail gasket. They made it right by replacing all of this with new parts but you have to watch these monkeys. Some are good some are beginners.

I had the same thing happen on my 02. It went away when I replaced the windshield.
