2004 Navigator Power Mirrors

I recently purchased a 2004 with power and folding side mirrors. I only received one key fob remote with the vehicle. When I adjust the mirrors, they have a jerky motion, but I can get them adjusted to where I want them.

However, when I push the unlock button on the key fob once or twice, to unlock the door(s), the mirrors will start trying to adjust themselves like I have the remote for a different driver than the last person to drive it. The owner's manual says to associate a remote with one of the power position settings you should push the "Set" button and within 5 seconds press any button on the key fob remote, and then the "1" or "2" position button. It also states you would go through the same procedure to disassociate the key fob from the position setting.

Thinking I was being smart, I tried to program the key fob to work with both settings since I am the only one driving it and wanted both settings to work the same.

I read that for some vehicles the key fob's had a number of "1" or "2" indicating that they only work with that setting. There is no mention of that in my owner's manual and I see no such marging on the back of my remote.

It is as if they mirrors have a mind of there own. I also disabled the reverse mirror option because they would get all out of position and never return to the correct position once I put the vehicle back in drive.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ted

Here are the word for word instruction from your owner's manual. Go through them and make sure you're not overlooking a step, also try it while sitting in the driver's seat with all of the doors closed. For my 2001 Navigator there were actually 3 memory slots...1, 2, and pressing 1 & 2 together gave the third memory save.

Activating the memory feature
To activate this feature:
1. Position the seat, rearview mirror, and adjustable pedals to the positions you desire.
2. Press the SET control on the driver’s door panel.
3. Within 5 five seconds, press one control on the remote transmitter and then press the 1 or 2 control on the driver’s door panel
to which you would like to associate with Driver 1 or Driver 2 positions.
4. Repeat this procedure for another remote transmitter if desired.

Deactivating the memory seat feature
To deactivate this feature:
1. Press the SET control on the driver’s door panel.
2. Within 5 five seconds, press any control on the remote transmitter which you would like to deactivate and then
press the SET control on the driver’s door panel.
3. Repeat this procedure for another remote transmitter if desired

Hi Alloro,

Thanks for responding. I have followed this exact procedure numerous times. The odd thing is that sometimes I can unlock the vehicle with the remote and the mirrors don't move. Then without doing anything to alter the mirror positions (including pressing either of the 1/2 position buttons), I can press the unlock button and they will move again. In fact, I can be outside the vehicle, press the button once to unlock the driver's door and the mirrors will move. If I then press it a second time to unlock the remaining doors (must be done within a few seconds), the mirrors will move again. Subsequent presses of the button after all doors are unlocked will usually result in the mirrors trying to adjust again.

Thanks,

Ted

It's starting to sound like the memory module is failing.
