mirrors

I have the 03 eddie bauer edition, and it has the mirrors that move down when you put it in reverse.

Anyway, the drivers side mirror does not want to return to its normal spot when you take it out of reverse. Is there a way to turn this function off so that the mirrors don't move when you put it in reverse?

Also, how do you program the remote to set the memory stuff when you use the different remotes?

Thanks!

I have the same problem with my 03 EB as well. With the tilting mirror feature turned on, the passenger side mirror returned to it's normal position only 60% of the time. Also, with the keyless entry remotes programmed for different drivers, the passenger mirror would move and overdrive the position even though it should have had to move the mirror (same remote).

To Answer your questions.

1. Diasble the feature. On the information centre buttons to the right of the steering column, select "Setup" and scroll through the options. I don't remember the exact wording, but there should be an option to turn on or off the tilting mirrors. Use "Reset" to select.

2. To program a key less remote on to a drivers profile. Press the "Set" button on the driver side door memory setting buttons. Next, press either the "Lock" or "Unlock" button on your remote you want to associate. Next, press either "1" or "2" to associate that remote to either "1" or "2".

Once the remotes are programmed, it will move your mirror, seat and pedals to the position you stored in each profile.

BTW: If you have your owners manual, it's in there too.

Have fun...

You can usually alleviate the problem by replacing the drive motors assembly. They are still relatively inexpensive and can be done in a matter of minutes. Of course you can always turn them off but I cant see doing that if you find the option useful. They were never advantageous to me.

Would the drive motor assembly contain the feedback circuits to determine to current mirror position?

Yes. The early units were prone to water contamination and later units were better sealed and grease comes in the connector to help keep it sealed. Its a common fix for wandering mirrors in reverse. Some required an updated module too, but I have only seen a few of those over the years. It certainly wasnt a good system as they discontinued them in DEC 2004

Thanks. As per my msg, I only have a problem with the passenger side mirror. It tilts in reverse fine, but doesn't always return to it's home position, but rather drives the mirror past home to the end of it's travel and clicks a few times before stopping the motor. Same thing when unlocking the vehicle via the keyless remote. The passenger mirror moves away from the home position and overdrives past the travel limits. I like the feature but constantly having the readjust the mirror. I finally just turn it off.
