Flathead generator end plate question
I am taking a 2nd attempt at restoring our 226 generator, getting it close to new condition. I picked up a NOS end plate. Is this what the original oil cup looked like?

All the ones I've seen have a spring-loaded cap.
If you're going to the trouble of replacing it, why not go to the later Y-block style that has a ball bearing? I may have one.

If memory serves me right, the original had spring loaded covers. Been a few years.

I have a spring cap but it doesn't fit over the cap in it. That cap you see in the picture has a ball bearing on it.

I think it's just a newer style maybe as I can find them online also, it's a ball bearing oiler. Depress the ball with a wire and oil it. Interesting....

I believe that is a type that you press the tip of a hand pump oiler against the ball to depress it, then the oil can be pumped. The snap cap is better at keeping dirt out, I'd guess

To piggyback, were the end caps left unpainted or were they painted? Have seen restored flatheads with generators both ways.

The entire generator was originally painted. They look nice cleaned up and not painted, but not 100% correct.

I think I read somewhere that the replacement end caps were not painted. Guess that stands to reason.
