carrier bearing cap issue

I have a 1990 f250 with a sterling 10.25 FF rear end. I had to replace the carrier recently and i notice when i went to tighten the bearing caps they wouldnt seat all the way to the diff housing. Theres probably a gap of 1/16 " between the bearing cap and the housing. Is this normal? I made sure the cap arrows were pointed away from each other. Thanks

You put the caps back on the correct sides and in correct orientation? Same as before you took it apart?

I might have got them mixed up. Is one cap bigger than the other on this axle?

You are supposed to mark them before you take them off. They are supposed fit flush and tight. try again.

It's not that one's bigger than the other. When the make the housing the caps are bolted in and torqued when the machine the housing to accept the carrier bearings. That means the caps will only truly mate up with the side they were machined with.
