Has anyone taken their truck to a repair shop that made unnecessary repairs that had nothing to do with the problem and then charged you an outrages price for those repairs?
I have made up a survey sheet that I need a Ford diesel mechanic or independent diesel mechanic to look at and give their opinion.
I have already contacted several places and they have said some of the repairs had nothing to do with the problem.
Thank you for your help.
Did they provide a work order or written estimate that you agreed to? I believe it depends on state law, some require the customer to be informed and authorization before they can exceed the estimate. Many states have at least some customer protections.
Sorry to hear that. I'd start digging on the web for applicable state law regarding your situation. There may or may not be much recourse at this point but consider getting the word out. Many businesses live and die on their reputation and in the internet age it's a lot easier to get the word out, if you were truly treated grossly unfairly maybe you can help prevent others from being screwed over. Doesn't "Yelp!" allow people to rate businesses?
I think the problem will be that if the work was authorizon and THAT work was done it won't mater if it fixed the origanal problem or not, unless the repair order spacificly states it is to fix a spacific peoblem. That is if there is any kind of written estimate. If there wasnt, ther is little that can be done.
This thread is proof yet again that a good 6.0 mechanic is worth it. I know of two shops that specialize in light truck diesel repairs, and more specifically 6.0 and 6.4, that are expanding both the shop area and adding staff.
Our local tech college has one of the best truck and diesel programs in the midwest, one needs to pre enroll a year ahead right now and they just keep adding real estate and other things to keep up with demand.
Iv seen folks $$10-15K in Begging for Mercy and still Jacked truck
5K Totally sucks for a Fuel pump but it could be worse
How come you didn't post when this $#!+ was going down or did you???
some people Laugh at Internet forums but the truth of the matter is the BS gets weeded out Fast and its very effective method to do diagnostic and or Keep a shop inline especially if a shop starts throwing Parts at Different Sub-Systems

This has just happened. The crooked shop had the truck for 5 months. The symptom was; I was driving on the freeway for 30 minutes when it just lost power. Scangauge read 48 volts and both temperatures were close. I had it towed home and 45 minutes later it started. So, it died hot and started cold. During the time in their shop they started out by changing the fuel spring. Then they changed all the injectors. Then they changed the injection harness and put in a new FICM. Lastly they replaced the lower fuel pump. The owner then admitted to me that they taught them to check the simplest thing first.... Keep in mind there was nothing wrong with the pressure spring, injectors, injector harness, FICM. It was the lower fuel pump..... Tell me these crooks weren't taking me for a ride.
Oh and that's not all; When I got it back the tail gate had a big dent in it and the transmission was leaking so bad I can't drive it...
I blame Ford for not taking responsibility for their mistake and creating this industry of crooked mechanics who constantly rip off the truck owners.
P.S. This is just an abbreviated version on what went on.
I don't know the whole story and it's easy to say what I would have done in hindsight, but I like to think I would have taken my truck to someone else after a couple of weeks.
If it makes you feel any better, I know a guy who spent 10k having his 04 Expy bullet proofed, and 6 months later the head cracked as evidenced by a severe fuel leak. Now they want to charge him another 4k to fix it.
