2012 F250 Factory E-Locker

I've been interested for awhile in adding some sort of traction device in the rear of my F250 with ESOF. For anyone out there with the factory E-Locker, I was wondering if the whole 4x4 ESOF button is a "swappable" item.
I have heard that the E-Locker unlocks over 20mph? If so I'm guessing there's more to the system then just swapping 4x4 shift systems and installing the locker/ drilling the hole.

I'm playing with the Idea of installing it, drilling the whole then wiring it off a separate switch on the dashboard. Does anyone have pictures of the location on the pumpkin where the connector/hole is drilled? Am I crazy? I would like to hear anyone's input on the idea.

Thanks

What makes you say that?

I didn't think my LS did much of anything in my '04. I am excited that my '16 has the locker, although I have no used it yet. I have had other trucks with lockers before and they worked great.

Not sure if a factory elocker is a drop in option or not....with factory electronics I mean. You can put one in and as long as you have 12v going to it, it will be locked. You are correct that the factory set up disables around 20 mph. Once the brake biased traction control became standard the limited slip option disappeared. The factory elocker does not offer limited slip, locked or open. IMO, the locker is almost pointless in a daily driven truck. It will never be used and when needed as in snow you will helplessly spin 2 rear tires opposed to just 1 and still require 4 wheel drive. Off-road it works to an extent, being the rear of a truck is light it's usually a lot of wheel spin. I am able to run most obx beaches with the locker engaged and 2 wheel drive. A limited slip is no match for a locker. If you get in something bad enough or have age on it, it's about as good as an open diff. I have the factory elocker and installed a mechanical locking front diff, that's a force of nature to try and stop.

Thank you for the input. I've been debating which route to go, either an eaton trutrac with 4.30 gears and a front eaton e-lock. Or just the factory E-lock and 4.30 gears. I found a new ford factory carrier with e-lock for $170 online which is very tempting.

If it was me I'd go with an aftermarket selectable locker so you can control when it is on, not have the computer shut it off at certain speeds.

If I went with the factory E-locker, I am almost certain I can just manually apply 12v to the connector and lock it.

AS for NEEDING 4x4,, NOT TRUE......
If you get stuck on pavement using a 2 wheel drive with E-locker.. you need better tires or learn to drive in Snow.
I live near Cleveland.. Never needed 4x4.. just add 400 pounds to bed..
Winters... that is 47 winters for me driving
my opinion.
My chevy station wagon with snow tires and 200 pounds in the back.. will climb over snow plow trails at side streets.. it has posi

SEARCH here... several people have installed e-locker in older Fords... and yes a switch with 12 volts is all that's needed...
but will NOT automatically turn off at 20 mph.

Locker is useful depending on your location. The mountain roads in the winter where I live 2 wheel drive won't cut it. Or the thing that guarantees I need 4 wheel drive in the newer super duty is the hill assist. You can burn the rear tires in the snow and never move an inch. If you can come across a factory one cheap get it, cheaper than an aftermarket unit and better than a limited slip.
