Hi, looking to upsize from my exploder to a f150 4x4 and wondering if a front diff lock was OEM in any models, if so how would I know? Lazy, trying to avoid putting in an aftermarket locker. Thank you in advance.
I don't think there was any limited slip offered.
It would be a brut to steer with a locker any place but on a soft surface where one tire could slip in a turn and steering control likely would be compromised..
i dont think its useful on a factory pavement pounder. mine is a tank with the LS in the rear, although my truck spins all 4 in the snow.. maybe all trucks do that..idk.

I'm confused.....
It almost sounds like your asking about auto locking hubs?
Lazy is throwing me off....cause you have to get out and lock in your front differential?
Ford never offered a LS unit in the front on this style of truck.
But they have in the past. Late 70's-Early 80's had an option with a front LS with the snow plow package.
Also the 2013 Raptor has a torsional LS diff in the front end.
I would love to put one in my truck, but never got around to it. I think if you got an LS out of a rear end of a 8.8 truck, you could mount it in the front 8.8 housing no problem. I have just never gotten around to doing this.

No, this is what I'm looking for in a factory offering. A system that positively locks the 2 front or rear wheels as one. Basically a part time spooled diff. for us old hot-rodders. Jeep Rubicon has a similar device from the factory. Fine on the street as your diff acts like an open center unit until you engage the locker with the flip of a switch. Installation means replacing the factory diff case with this unit and setting up preload and tooth contact pattern. I'm lazy so I was hoping to find a factory installed unit but it sounds like a no go. ARB Air Lockers & Accessories | Products | ARB 4x4 Accessories

Oh ok...I just had to ask because some people ask about some pretty crazy things with not much info.
A friend spend a long time putting a limited slip unit in the front of his dodge diesel for plowing. He took it out a few days later because he could not steer in 4wd. Granted it did push the snow better.
F-150s are equipped with limited slip in the REAR AXLE , not the front. You can tell by looking at the tag on the cover. It will say 3L 55 for 3.55 ratio with trac loc. If it just says 3 55 then it is just a plain open carrier.
However with it in 4WD the traction is very good in this combo.
