Transmission question
Transmission question
I have a 2006 f350. Transmission is acting funky.
I was wondering how to tell if I have the r4100 or the 5R110w. Wikipedia says could have either. Dash says P R N D 3 2 1 if that helps, and it does have tow mode.
Also, if I have the 4100, are the two interchangeable, and is there any benefit to the 5R110W?
Thx.

Just changed a trans on 2004 6.0L.
There are 2 of them....1 is cheap ($700 at junkyard) and the other is very rare and expensive.
If you have a 6.0 that is a tow truck you have the expensive and rare one.
If you have the common 6.0 that everyone has it is the Torqshift 5R110W.
Check on Car-part.com
The 4100 is only in the 6.8L and 5.4L. There is no 6.0L as far as I know that has a 4R100 which is only in a gas motor!
Easiest way to verify is to call the dealership with your VIN. You have the Torqshift 5R110W w/o PTO.

Ooopss...I lied...The 2006 gas motor does come equipped with a 5R110W, TorqShift according to car-part.com.
I was checking for year 2004...Still...You have the 5R110W, TorqShift 4x4 w/o PTO I am 100% on that.

The last year the 4R100 was produced was 2004. All 2006 automatic Superdutys have the 5R110W regardless of engine. There were no exceptions.
As for rare and expensive, you probably mean a transmission with a PTO (Power Take Off) adapter on the side. You'd know if you had this, you would have a hydraulic dump body, or maybe a hydraulic wrecker body. 99.9% of the trucks would have no need for this.

It's worth mentioning the PTO provision as far as a pickup is concerned does not effect anything and makes no difference. Both transmissions work on a pickup. And I believe a replacement Trans from Ford will have the provision coverplate regardless.
