Im having an aweful time finding the correct ignition switch for the truck im reassembling. Original was missing. I was told the truck was a 78, but the doors were missing and the ID tag is not ledgable. The replacement doors with vin tag are 78, but of course that doesnt tell me about the cab. Anyhow, i bought a 78-79 switch and it wont work. Then i bought a switch for a 76 thinking they were the same from 73-77 and it wont work either. Im stumped, was there a part change between 73-77?
If you are really lucky, the original wiring harness ID tag will still be in place. That would tell you what year you're dealing with. The draw back is, to get to it, you either need to pull the instrument cluster or be a contortionist.
The tag is wrapped around the harness bundle behind the instrument cluster.
One thing I can tell you, that plug doesn't look like my (early) '73.
I just look in the Ford parts catalog, it shows three different switches were used in the 73-79 F series.
73-76 used D0TZ-11572-A description says "6 blade terminals"
77 used D6TZ-11572-A Description says "6 blade terminals-has two locking bars.
and 78-79 used D8TZ-11572-A with no description.
This is a '77. Note that this picture is rotated 90 degrees from the picture of your plug.
