Ignition Switch Pigtail

I am installing an 18 circuit Painless Wiring Harness in my '68. The pigtail for the ign. switch is pretty bad. It looks like some of the wires are melted at the plastic plug that goes into the back of the switch. I have been searching for a replacement with no luck. The closest I have found is for a 1970, but I couldn't see the picture good enough to tell if it is the same or not. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!!

Hey stepside
I would get the pigtail for the 1970 then you can get the 1970 ignition switch to match just check the switch to make sure it matches. That is if it does not match yours already.

Thanks for the idea bigern6697. I hope to find someone that knows where I can get the '68 though. I just bought a brand new ign. switch for the '68 about 4 months ago. Just hope that someone has had to replace this also. Again, thanks.

There are actually 3 different styles used in 67-72. The 67's have a common post right in the middle, the other two look the same except one has "bullet" style pins and the other has "blade" type pins. Check this page out http://www.bumpsides.com/ignition/index.html There is one mistake I believe on that page. The part number listed as 1968 is actually a 71 part number (starts with D1).

Cool, thanks for the website info! I have been doing internet searches for 8 years for original specs on the '68 models and they never showed this. I am sure to be visiting the site a lot. Again, all of you are great!!!

I figure I will order the pigtail that is available and see what happens. If I have to replace the switch to get it right, that's what I'll do. I don't want any shortcuts on this project. I will post when I get to compare for sure. By the way, my switch and pigtail have the bullets. It appears that the previous owner had wired the ignition hot wire to the wire marked "Regulator Wire." The smaller red w/green stripe ign. hot wire melted all the way up to the pigtail connector. What a mess! Glad I found this before I melted the truck and my house!

If you look at the link that 1968F250LWB posted, it will show the pictures of the three options. If anyone with a '70 model is willing to look at their pigtail, mine is identical to the middle picture. It's the one with the bullet style connector. Thanks!
