So I think I have gotten the bugs worked out that I know of so far, other than my gauges, which is in another thread. However, my starter is acting up now. every now and then, it stays stuck, like I'm just holding the key to start position, then just now, it wouldn't start at all, I got out, messed when the pos. on the battery, it sparked at the terminal, then started rolling over without me having the key turned on. I jumped in, turned the key to start and back off, and it quit. then I turned it over and it fired right up. I'm suspecting maybe a short at the terminal? or is there maybe a relay going bad? I know owning this truck, this time around, has been a pain, but I feel like its only a matter of time before it either all works out, or burns to the ground. lol
Good thing it is an auto trans or it was in neutral. Sounds like a stuck/sticking starter solenoid ( mounted on the inner fenderwell passenger side) or you have a bad/going bad ing switch.
Check your battery cables and terminals too, and the starter cable. Check the ground cable to the engine block as well, and maybe add a block to frame cable, and check/replace the block to body ground strap.
Maybe consider using a newer design relay, like this echlin st404 to fix some of the problems with the old design. I bolted mine in the same place and the lugs were labeled S and I and was easy to install.
Getting to know your electrics is important to preventing a burnt to the ground pickup!
