White Smoke
New to the diesel world and idi's. when I start my 7.3 idi every morning it blows white smoke and sometimes when I drive, I have an idea of it burning oil but why so much, anything would help. Thanks

Welcome aboard Drew, My IDI has been a learning experience, lot's of good info here from some knowledgeable people ( not Me ) stick around , read the stickies at the top lot's of good info there to get started.

No find the offending problem, mine was GP's yours may not be. These ole girls will run forever if maintained. Read through the diesel smoke link and you can see white can be several things. GP's are easy to test with a volt/ohm meter, there is a great write up at the top of the page for testing. Easy to do.

When you open the idi section at the top of the page are stickies / threads 7 or 8 of them on various subjects, find the year corresponding to your truck and read through the testing procedure there.

White smoke can also be coolant ... But I suspect not in this case.
Some white smoke is to be expected at start up, especially if you have Glow Plug issues.
White smoke is super heated unburnt fuel.
However it should not give white smoke while driving!
When you're engine braking (ie off the go pedal and the engine is slowing you down) do you get smoke?
