Hey PFG, did you order the short bed like bowler or a long bed. I'm thinking the long bed might show a bit more. It might be enough for what you need. I can't imagine ordering a short bed.
Hey PFG, are you planning to use a 5th wheel or a GN? If you're using a 5th wheel, then someone else raised a good point above. That is, the height of the 5er hitch will probably make it so that you can see the plate/jaws for king pin alignment.
I like that cover too (function), but I don't care for the vinyl look. Ford sells this in their accessory catalogue as well, from "Rev" a ford aftermarket shop in Ann Arbor...one of the Drive Event trucks had one on it.
This cover (Revolver or rev knockoff) will work with the CHMSL.
Coming back to this thread after taking some closer looks at Bowler's pictures on Page 7. Couple of things I noticed: 1) Using the wheel wells as a gauge, the Center Puck looks like sits 2/3 of the way at the back (cab side) of the wheel wells. 2) The CHMSL Camera will show you the bed almost 1/2 back of the wheel wells. I think someone with a few brains and trailering experience could use the dashed line to still easily hook up with a gooseneck.
Completely agree.....however, not seeing the pin from the camera does not allow the system to function as intended. If I can solve for the sighting issue with another cover, so be it.
For me I've been hung up on the toolbox thing. Really like the American Work Cover Jr, but man are they proud of them. The Bak Industries panel covers can be paired with a Bak Box undercover toolbox...pretty nifty...problem is they cover the gooseneck pin on a short-bus, so revert to the vinyl Revolver X2...meh, it's vinyl.
Lastly, fall back on good ol Retrax. Based on the measurements provided by Force 74 (thanks man!) you should be able to see the pin with the cover rolled up into its can. No toolbox, but oh well, cover is built like a tank.
Bat4x4 - let us know how you like it. My only hold-up with the Retrax is the canister size. The Roll-n-Lock and American Roll Up are both smaller, giving that little extra space for coolers, luggage, boxes.
Roll-n-lock has a piece of extrusion that mounts to your tailgate. That is something that would be in the way when sliding heavy items in and out of the bed- so that one is out for me.
So far I am sticking with the Pace Edwards Switchblade but am still looking
I have the RetraxPro MX bed cover on my 2012 F250 short bed. When its retracted you have a perfect view of the fifth wheel hitch for hooking up the camper. I did have to remove the center head rest from the back seat, I noticed the 2017 head rest is much smaller. I use a B&W companion hitch and I'm able to close my bed cover over it without removing the hitch head. For no other reason then it all worked well for me, I'm going to duplicate this setup on my 2017 F350 when it arrives.
