I am working on getting my 7.3 running again. When I turn the key for the glow plugs to light smoke comes out the plug in on the passenger rear VC. I pulled all 4 VC plugs and every plug smells a little burnt and the corner look a little charred on the glow plug pin side.whats going wrong? The wires are factory nothing has been altered or tampered with
I took the VC's off put new glow plugs, hooked the plugs back up securely connected the plugs with the VC's still off.I turned the key on to WTS and smoke came out the connector. It appears that each GP pin towards the front of the motor is getting hot.i determined this by feeling each connector and they all got hot to the forward side
UVCH will melt if the gp's are bad or if they have bad connections. When they smoke they are done for. You'll have to replace UVCH, VC gaskets and probably pigtails
It is good that you changes the glow plugs, but you haven't replaced all the damaged parts yet. As mentioned, new wiring is necessary. If you are interested, you can change to the super duty style which only has 1 plug per valve cover. There are several writes on both the upgrade and normal replacement
