engine dies occasionally on deceleration

I have a 2002 excursion 7.3L. It has started dying lately after I let off of the pedal and the vehicle slows down and the engine is supposed to go to idle but sometimes it dies. It will start back up right away. It has begun to start a little rougher especially after it dies. I have replace the CPS and I got new batteries.
I need some help figuring this one out.

One likely cause is a sluggish/sticking IPR valve. Do you have a scan tool that will monitor/log live data?

Good to know, my auto has begun to do this. Especially with the AC on.

Thanks for the info. I do not have a scan tool. Is there any other way of knowing if this is a problem?
Also I do have the edge juice product running on this vehicle, could that be a problem or cause this problem?
Thanks

+1

Easily disassembled, cleaned, and resealed. (Reseal Kit about $12)

An update: I have replaced the CPS the ICP and overhauled the IPR. I have disconnected the Edge Juice and it still has the same problem. I really need some help because I am in over my head on this. What are you thoughts? I would rather not buy an IPR if that is not the problem so is there any way I can check it?
Thanks

Yes. However, at this point, you are going to need a scan tool of some type as Pikachu stated.

Check out this link. FORScan for Windows (free) and a $15 OBDII to usb connector will have you fixed up....or one of the other FORScan options.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...the-cheap.html

Then, you will need to monitor ICP and IPRDC%.

Got any CEL's?

The OBDII tools of today are waaay cheaper and easier to attain than as recently as two years ago. Depending on how you go about it, the OBDII tool can be 10% of the cost of one sensor on our truck - which makes it very easy to justify the price if it saves you from so much as one misdiagnosis.

I didn't go the cheap route, but I don't urge people to do precisely what I did. If you have an iOS phone or device, you need a WiFi OBDII adapter - there are few of those, but I like the OBDLink MX. If you have anything other than iOS, you can use Bluetooth - and I'm partial to the OBDLink MX or LX.

Once you have a scan tool, we can sort out where things are going wrong in the truck - and not just with this one issue you have now.

When you decel, the injectors shut off - and it is up to the tuning to recover from decel properly to avoid a stall. Removing chips and/or aftermarket programs is frequently the first step in troubleshooting an issue.

How does it die? Is it smooth? Does it jump?

It is smooth, as the rpm decels it just continues and dies.

That may be the tuner not letting go of the torque converter soon enough, or not bringing up the Fuel Injector Pulse Width soon enough after decel. By logging some key PIDs during a drive when the engine stalls, we can look at the data to determine if it's the tune doing it or the truck doing it.

The down-and-dirty troubleshooting method is to pull all tuning enhancements and get it back to stock condition. If it still stalls in stock tune, then we really need to see some data to know what's going on.

Without seeing some numbers from the PCM, troubleshooting an issue like this with nothing more than a description of the symptoms is akin to playing car bingo without looking out the window.

The tq converter was my first thought. Since he said it's smooth I would be willing to rule it out. You've said enough that I don't need to add to it

Thank you to everone. I am waiting on the OBDII usb connector and I will download the forscan software and plug it into the excursion.
Once I get the cable and software, I know that I need to look at the IPR and ICP but what else should I look at while I am driving?
Thanks
