I have one sitting at my parents awaiting work at the moment. I could pull it if I'm able to get out there. Not sure when that'll be though. It's an hour away from my house.
Also my truck was dying on decel and I ran the @#!*% out of it passing a double trailer tractor and it seems to have cleared her out. I also run Stanadyne in every tank.
Where are you located. Depending on how long you think this would take I may just buy it anyway, if it is not the IPR I would have a spare for some other time that it goes out.
Crud - I just realized you're near Goldendale. I'm in Wenatchee. If you don't mind a little road trip, I'll be working on Stinky and Frank this weekend. I can break away to do some testing with you, and I have a couple of IPRs on the shelf (from the OBS engines in my garage).

It is not a bad idea to replace the IPR on an older engine. It gets a lot of abuse, deals with high pressure oil and can have an immediate improvement in power and mileage. It has to operate very precisely in a hot, dirty oil environment.
Update: I installed a new IPR. It still dies but not as often, maybe every third time. I also replaced the throttle sensor which did change the response and starting of the diesel.
So it now starts better but still a little rough, when it tries to die I can push the throttle and it normally recovers without having to fan the pedal but it does not work all the time. The total response and performance seems to better but it does still die??
Now what?????
A couple months back the same thing happened to me. Smooth decel to idle and then out of nowhere, it would drop out but start up right back again. Did it 5 x on the way home. Changed out the CPS the next morn and all was good til I got closer to work and same crap all over. Couldn't figure it out but I have the luxury of having a terrific diesel mechanic a mile away from me. He has a 7.3 and uses Ford's software. His test drive showed the IPR solenoid not pulling in at the first gear. I had him swap it out of an older IPR I had in the glove box and all was good.

I have been wondering about my IPR being the cause of this. I used an extra dose of fuel treatment (Stanadyne) and changed the oil and she's even better. I had also ran the **** out of her beforehand which seemed to have helped as well.
3 weeks after the IPR was changed out, i had a hot no start...The tin nut came loose and a dab of purple Loktite did the trick. I never knew that tin nut could give a hot no start.

When my transmission had a loose connection, the park/neutral switch was open. When this happens, turning the key had zero effect - no crank.
Now that we've likely crossed IPR off the list, I think we're looking at bad injector O-rings or a loose stick. A loose stick can inject air into the fuel when in decel, and inject combustion gasses with heavy throttle. Cody test.

What is a loose stick and what is a Cody test?
I do not know when the injectors where replaced so maybe I should replace them, the vehicle has 184,000 miles. Where would be a good place to purchase them? Can I install them relatively easy?
Would rebuilding them be the way to go at this point?
