White Lithium grease on window rollers

When I put my new door glass in my 54 this spring I coated the rollers and the things they roll on with white Lithium grease. The windows went up and down so easily and quickly. Tonight I put the door access panel in the 54, for some reason I never replaced it.

So since I had screw driver in hand I thought I would take off the door panels in the 55 just to see the condition of the inside of the doors. I did the drivers side first. I cleaned out dirt and junk and made sure the weep holes were open. Then I rolled down the window and went to get my can of white lithium grease. I doused everything and put the window back up and down again and it rolled up and down just as easy as in my 54. I then did the same to the passenger side. Both these windows were hard to put up, and down was not easy either. I could not believe they roll so easy now.

Amazing what a little preventive maintenance will do. Things like door hinges, hood hinges, latches, seat rails, all would probably last centuries if they were maintained. I once saw a guy bend a 70s vintage Chevy PU hood because the hinges were so burned up with grease they were stuck.

WOW!!!!
I haven't messed with my windows much. They are actually cracked, but I do have one replacement. They are hard to move. So, at lunch today I went out and got some White Lithium grease. I just got home and sprayed it on the driver's side window. That makes a Huge difference. The window goes up and down smoothly now. I owe you one Abe.

Now, the felts in the channel are about gone, the windows are cracked, and.......Well at least they roll up and down now.

The problem with grease is it collects dirt so regular maintenance is required, just saying.

This is the best I have found for window regulators. It is classified as a grease but it it's silicone. I don't know if it come in a spray.

Just an afterthought on the lubrication. Lubrication of tight fitting parts, hinges, rollers, etc need a lubrication that will flow, penetrate into tight spots. Make sure the spray grease you're using will flow. Some of that white spray lithium grease I've seen is for surface use only, no flow.

I used the WD-40 brand of lithium grease and it seemed to flow pretty good.
I like the new bottles that have the straw attached to the head. You don't lose the straw that way.

Motorcycle chain oils are good too. They are cut with a solvent to make them penetrate, the solvent evaporates quickly, leaving a waxy grease deep in between pieces.

I got a can of white lithium spray and a can of the silicone spray. Good stuff for many different applications.
