Fuel Issue

Greetings all. I have a 1950 F-1 with a flathead 8. Stored it over the winter and now seem to be having fuel problems. Replaced fuel pump and ensured the fuel line was clear. Had it started for about 20 minutes and died again. Any thoughts?

20 minutes? That's a pretty long time for a fuel issue to show itself. If you said 20 seconds, I would guess you have a stuck float in the carb as a possibility. How did it run during that 20 minutes? Does it restart after the truck cools off?

Welcome to the forum, Bob. I would be looking down the throat of the carburetor for gasoline discharging in two places when the throttle is opened. No squirts of gas, you have a fuel problem.. If you have squirts of gas where mentioned, you probably have an electrical problem.
Edit: We need pictures of the truck.

Sounds like you have addressed the hardware issues how about the gas itself?

I spent a lot of time cleaning the carb, rebuilding the carb, etc to try to get fuel issues resolved. Ended up draining, flushing/cleaning the tank, resealing, and getting in new fuel then keeping in a little Seafoam additive at times and the issues stopped. Hope your issue is more simple, but this worked for me.

Thanks for the responses guys. Yes it ran for 20 minutes. Very rough and sluggish. I also think the carb and will be cleaning it this weekend. Happy 4th!

You might try getting some fresh gas to the carb via a boat type gas can. Gas doesn't last too long theses days without some sort of additive, Seafoam or Stabil or whatnot. At least if you had fresh gas to it that would help rule that out.

A lot of good info from folks that are a lot smarter and experienced than myself, That said. B4 I rerouted my fuel supply line to the carb,my truck would get vapor lock (gas boiling in line) if I let it sit and idle for 15 /20 minutes. Probably not the cause of your problem but I thought I would just mention it. Welcome to the FTE family.
