So my 1985 f250 with the 460 has been having fuel issue since I got it. I got most of the problems solved but I have one last thing. If I prime the fuel bowls the truck runs great and when I get on it, it sucks all the fuel out of the fuel bowl and I can no longer give it had without it dieing. But it still idles. Does anyone have a clue of what could be wrong. And I know my fuel pump gets fuel while the truck is running. I'm just stumpt and these days it's hard to find a shop that knows how to work on carbureted vehicles near you
Check your output flow rate & fuel pressure at the carburetor. IOW disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor and attach a pressure gauge to it, then crank the engine over a few times; IIRC the pressure should be 4-7 psi.
Disconnect the gauge and direct the output into a container, then verify it can deliver the required quantity in the specified amount of time - you will need to look up those specifications, it's something like N pints per 30 seconds of engine cranking.
If that passes, then I agree with the above - look into your carburetor, especially the float valve.
