Fuel Pump Problem?
I've got a 1985 F150 I-6 with some fuel delivery problems. There's plenty of gas in the tank and the engine will run with some gas poured in the carb but won't stay running.
I think the problem is the fuel pump. I looked down the carb while actuating the throttle and didn't see/smell any gas. I pulled the hose off the fuel pump inlet and found no evidence of gas (I expected a little to dribble out).
I also had a helper crank the engine while I stuck my finger over the inlet and found no evidence of suction. Is this a realistic test?
Is there any possibility that a "diptube" of sorts has fallen off the fuel gauge sender unit preventing fuel from getting up the fuel line?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott
