That's I'm starting to think too Christian; mounting it on the far right side. If you've ever driven an early Ranger, they'll usually have either a "Ranger " or "XLT" emblem on the far right side of the dash; right above the glove box. That's where I got the idea from.
As for the Brasso, I might try that. This piece also has black outlines on the side and top edges. I want to reprint that as well.
Okay so I tried cleaning up that vintage emblem over the weekend with Brasso. it looks better, but close up it's still badly pitted. My next step is to re-chrome it with chrome spray paint.
I'm also posting a picture of the part # on the back so if someone can identify this and tell me year truck it's from; that would be great!
Jim there is no way to know exactly what MY that emblem was issued/ installed onto a truck. But the design of that emblem was used on the 1982-1986 MY's. If that helps. The E2 in the engineering number dictates that, that particular design started in 1982. Hope this answers your question.
That's what I was thinking too, 1982 -1986 era. Thanks Alex!
Although here's a little thought: maybe pop the current "F-150" badges off the fenders and tailgate and reinstall badges from an older model F-150? Maybe a 90's era truck.

FYI....There are large holes behind the OE badges on our trucks, thanks Ford

Oh I figured there would be. I think I'd be more surprised if there wasn't. I was away all weekend so haven't been able to work on this project again. Although I has a flat tire on Thursday right before I left town. Tried Fix-A-Flat and the stupid nozzle broke on the can! Long story short I ended up leaving the truck sit at a friend's house all weekend and we drove out in his Volvo S60 R-Design. (I must say that Volvo was a nice car for the trip) Since the leak was on the sidewall, I bought two new tires today for the beck. Not being prepared for this I had to do some mis-matching. I've got the Cooper's up front and Firestone Destination AT's on the back
Oh, Thanks for telling me Alex. That was the first time I've ever used it on my own vehicle. I won't use it again. Used it on my wife's car before in a pinch, but never my own.
Different tread patterns no. But different sizes yes. In an effort to get new tires as cheaply and as quickly as possible, I bought a different size. My mechanic just advised me that if I tried to use 4wd right now, I would most likely blow the T-case. Not to mention that it's confusing my control module. The front tires are a 245/65/17, the rears are the stock 235/75/17. So my haste just cost me another $400. I'll get two more Firestone Destination AT's in the 235/75 size, then try to sell the remaining Cooper's on Craigslist.
How are those Destination A/Ts working for you (different sizes aside)? I will probably be getting some for my 1988 F150, just to keep it looking stock.
So far so good. However I really haven't ventured off paved roads yet until I get new ones on the front. We drove it down to VA on Friday and heading home today. They ride nice with little noticeable road noise though. Traction in wet weather is good too as we've had a lot of rain lately. Rained most of the day Friday during the trip. Overall I do recommend them. If your truck is 2wd, and you don't think you need the all-terrain tire, then consider the Destination LE. Although I can't say much about that one as I've never used it.
