The tranny is a rebuilt one from Ford( for a '97 f350 power stroke that was ordered and never paid for), torque converter is a new on that is for the idi or power stroke with a 4 bolt pattern.(I posted the listing of the one I have.
but you have a ford gas engine, not an navistar international diesel engine.see the problem here?
Just a quick question - have you check for codes (engine/CEL codes) to see if Trans is throwing errors? I had similar problems with mine recently and the codes helped w/proper diagnosis. (Was bad solenoid, Trans in limp mode) --that was my issue, check for codes to see what's happening w/your connection etc.

Reason: Added detail
My motor is a 7.3 idi.
The solenoid pack came from a e4od/460 in a 94 f250.
For giggles, I scanned the motor for codes and got these. 93,94,99,29,56,91,92 that popped up.
29: Vehicle Speed Sensor Problem
56: Transmission Oil Temperature sensor too high – Transmissions
91: Transmission SS 1 circuit/solenoid problem
92: Transmission SS 2 circuit/solenoid problem
93: Transmission TCC circuit/solenoid problem
94: Transmission TCC circuit/solenoid problem
99: Transmission EPC circuit/solenoid failure
Something is very wrong with either the wiring in your truck, or the solenoid pack you got. Your computer is saying it has no connection at all to any of the solenoids in the transmission. Another thing I just realized, is what are you doing for your speedometer? The 1997 E4OD will not have a spot on the tailshaft for the speed sensor your 1990 requires.
I knew the 29 code would show as the speedo gear needs replaced ( striped teeth on the plastic gear.)
I did change the shifter arm before installing the tranny.
Well, like I said, the transmission will not shift correctly at all without the speed sensor hooked up, and the '97 E4OD should not even have a spot for your speed sensor.
You also need to figure out why you have no connection at all to your solenoid pack. How is the wiring on the solenoid pack connector?
Update!
I replaced my solenoid pack, connector plug and computer from a good core truck that had the same computer as mine.
But my ID light still flashes. What could a possible cause be?
