I just rebuilt my 302 in my 96 F150 and I installed a larger cam while it was apart. I used comp xtreme energy cam part # 35-512-8 I also used all the recommended lifters, push rods, springs, timing set, etc. through comp. started it up and performed the break in on it and have driven it some since then. I still have some lifter noise and I am wondering if any one else has experienced this, is it normal? I was told with the larger cam it is normal for the lifters to make noise. I just want to know other people's thoughts/inputs about this.
I'd pull the upper intake, both valve covers, carefully check & mark distributor, pull it, then plug in a prelube drive shaft to the oil pump & run the crap out of it while watching what & how much come out of the push rods onto the rockers.
If you reused the rockers, did you keep them with their fulcrums? They are wear mated & mixing them up can make for "ticks".
What were your oil press readings? Does the tick go away/lessen with rpm or oil press increase ?
I went off the gauge in the cluster it's in the normal range. I can't hear it driving it down the road but it's hard to hear the lifter noise with the vehicle off idle due to the exhaust leak.
