2.3l lifter noise

I bought a 91 2.3l that had sat for 2 years. I have been driving it for 3 months now and the cold lifter noise has not improved. It rattles for at lest 3-5 minutes when cold. Are the rockerarms adjustable. Would it be a bad idea to replace lifters without replacing the cam??

Try changing to a thicker oil. IE from 5w30 to 5w40. If the engine is high miles and tired try a pint of STP or something similar.

A Sea Foam treatment may help clean up the lifters.

Try the sea foam trick before replacing the lifters. And at least try to identify which lifter is collapsed before replacing them. A roller could stick and cause noise, a valve could hang up from carbon deposits, it isn't always a lifter. If you know for sure it is a lifter, and the cam and rollers look good, then go ahead and replace just the lifters. If there are any signs of scorching or flat spotting anywhere on the cam or followers, replace the followers, lifters, and cam.
