The new 4.9L runs great as expected. The 3.55 gear really brought the truck alive going up hills etc (not to mention the new engine). Put on new shocks and tires but the truck rides like a "log wagon." Rides extremely rough on bumpy roads. Drove a similar XLT with a 5.0L and it rides great over the same roads. What could be the difference? Maybe the front coils are worn out due to the heavier L6 on my truck?
What tire pressure are you running? I run 50 psi in mine to get a bit of fuel economy, but it does ride a bit rougher. New tires have less slop and flex in them compared to used ones.
My truck rides decent to me. I also have a fiberglass topper, 4x8 sheet of 3/4" plywood on the bed floor, and 150-200 lbs of other stuff in the box. If it was completely empty, I could see it riding rough, but with a bit of a load in it the ride smooths out a bit. I don't think the 300 is appreciably heavier than the 302, might even be lighter.
