Like the title says my OD light started flashing on my way home today. I know it's something with the trans but since it's not throwing a check engine code none of the part stores around me can read it.
It's not shifting super hard, yet, but the nearest Ford place is a serious drive and I don't want to make something worse.
Am I safe making the trip or is there another way I can figure out the problem?

You're getting a "Check Your Transmission Light". The PCM does control communications between the two and will store codes, you need a quality Scantool to retrieve them.

Many time this is the connector on the Transmission Control Pack. Prior to replacing, try some Contact Cleaner and reinstall the connectors.
Friend has a guy he trusts so I'm going to head there tomorrow. I'd look into doing it myself but my experience with diesels is pretty limited. I'll post when I'm up there, you guys might be able to give me some insight.
