I may be wrong and if so, need correcting, but having either of those sensors bad, including a blocked EBP tube or a cracked and leaking MAP line, won't create overboost, just wont let the turbo spool up properly.
Don't want to sound negative, but I think you're wasting more money.
I've been googling the crap out of this and it seems this has fixed the problem for other people. That's all I'm going by. I just want to get this resolved as soon as I can (before the head gaskets go). In your earlier post you said I should check the VGT solenoid but never gave instructions how to do this? I'm mechanically inclined but lacking in Diesel experience. As far as waisting money I'll just chock up those two sensors as preventative maintanence. No biggie. I'm going to order a unison ring today because I know it should be replaced regardless if it fixes my problem.
I appreciate the honesty but could use a little more guidance. Thanks

Which would cause an under boost which also equals a P0299.
So called my local Ford dealership today and tried to order a unison ring. The lady told me they can't get parts for inside the turbo?? She gave me the number for NADP (North American Diesel performance) and after 8 hours I finally called them back and they quoted me $425 dollars for some kind of kit? WTF. I did a quick Google search and found a unison ring for $169 on Amazon. Keep in mind that was USD but still. I'm so tired of getting screwed on parts in Canada. This is getting out of hand. The dealership I tried to get the parts through was Boundry Ford Lloydminster Alberta if anybody was wondering. Wow I'm frustrated. Looks like I will be ordering my parts from the good ol US of A. They even have a Ford part number and these dealerships can't get them. What gives? And this NADP how can you call your selves diesel guys if you don't stock a unison ring for a 6.0 Ford. Like wow there are hundreds of 6.0 fords running around this agricultural/ oil field driven economy and they don't have parts. Grrr. Ok I feel better now. Just had to rant alittle bit. Those of you south of the border feel good about your parts availability and pricing. Rant over. Have a good night all.

I know he says it's an overboost condition and "maybe" a P0299 underboost but again, not sure it would spool up if it's a vacuum issue with the MAP, etc.
Once you remove the steel cap on the turbo with the hex head index in the middle, you can remove the snap ring and access the solenoid arm. It's oil driven so it can still move slowly, even when connected, if the unison ring is operating freely.
I've posted this picture before but you can order this online from Amazon or the like, avoiding that dealer.
So I changed the MAP sensor and found the hose in pretty bad shape. Was really hard and loose on the sensor end. Also replaced the EBP sensor and found the old one completely plugged up. I took it for a good road test and it seems a bit better but not 100%. So it was worth doing them anyways.

So where abouts is this steel cap on the turbo? And how is it removed? Is it the little grey looking thing under the VGT solenoid plug in? Thanks for your help.
So I'm thinking of replacing the turbo and before you guys tell me I'm waisting money hear me out. First of all although I don't mind pulling wrenches my time seems to be at a premium these days with 4 kids under the age of 6 so if I change the unison ring and it doesn't fix it that's going to be tuff. Second the turbo did have some pitting where the unison ring goes in the turbo housing when I had it out last time so dumping money into it might be a waist. Also this truck has 220 000kms on it so how much more life does it have in it anyways? The new turbos have engineering updates built into them so that's good and they come with the VGT solenoids so it's pretty much guaranteed to fix my over boosting problem right?? Pulling that turbo out isn't the greatest job either. Ya camping season is pretty much here and I don't want to blow my head gaskets by pulling the camper with it the way it is. So yep pretty much talked myself into it. Let me hear your thoughts. Be nice. Lol
