Some quick questions

i am about to take a trip from albuquerque to colorado with my montana 5th wheel

i just had a a afe stage 2 air intake installed, a mbrp 4" turbo back exhaust installed, and got a micro tuner and put the first stage tune which is a 70 hp tow safe mode.

i also got a pillar installed with a egt gauge, boost gauge, and tranny temp.

i was wondering what is safe boost, egt, and tranny temp levels with my truck.

can someone also explain turbo surge and how and if i could tell by looking at my boost gauge...

sorry about the newb questions i am just learning so thanks for the help in advance...

Turbo surge/stall is a cyclic event,no mistaking it when happening as it is noisy and your boost is going to jump up and down. Not good as it can damage your turbo. With no boost relief valve in the MAP line your boost will be limited by the
PCM using the wastegate to control it. Disconnecting the wastegate red line will give more boost but at the cost of turbo surge/stall. Typical max boost on a stock setup running a chip like yours is limited to about 22psi.
For preturbo egt keep it under 1250F with short 20-30 second bursts at 1250F
being safe. Subtract about 200F for post turbo readings as they're cooler.
Keep your tranny under 225F for reduced wear and tear. Auxillary coolers are available for extra cooling.

Re:

today when i was pulling the 5th wheel up the hill my boost gauge went up to 13 psi and then quickly dropped to 8 in a matter of less than a second, was that just the wastegate letting pressure off since i was at the top of the hill or was that turbo surge?

Welcome to FTE.

You may have eased off the throttle a little bit without realizing it. You'll never "see" the wastegate working on a boost gauge unless it is malfunctioning.

You can however see surge on the gauge....the needle will jump or bounce very rapidly within a range of about 5 psi or less.
