Turbo Boost Questions

Hey guys, I'm relatively new to the 6.7 engine , I have a 2014 F-350 SRW with aprox 51,000 miles on it. Normal driving I see about 8 to 10 psi of boost even under moderate acceleration although at times it will go to about 18 psi at WOT and it does this with heavy loads. At moderate acceleration the boost will jump to 10 psi quickly but immediately stop there and sometimes as the RPM"s increase boost pressure decreases. What are you guy's thoughts om this? Only issues I have had with the truck was a clogged EGR cooler.

I've noticed interesting things with boost as well. It used to be, the turbo boost was controlled by exhaust flow with maybe a waste gate to limit it. With these variable vane turbos that are computer controlled, they can make them do all kinds of things you might not expect (on a diesel at least) - but there might be every reason to do so. Mainly for emission control I suspect, but probably for a few other reasons as well. If you look at the turbo control PIDs in Forscan or whatever, it isn't obvious why, but they are playing with the turbo a lot. One clear example is during a regen, the boost is run up to 10 psi or so and kept there regardless of low load conditions. Probably to run more air through and push the heat towards the DPF.
