Towed my T/T yesterday, about 30 miles into the trip climbing a small incline traveling about 60 MPH truck drops down a gear and boost jumps up a bit (about 28 on my dash gauge) and nearly instantly the dreaded WL pops on?? Truck is running fine/ pulling good and the water/oil temps are 203/212. I continue on to my destination (with one quick stop to check for the obvious) No codes present(I use SGII) and when I shut the key off and then back on no more WL. What say you guys?
....also, the hill I was ascending was not the first of the journey...nor the longest/steepest up to the WL
Mine did that recently. Going to have to swing by AA or A zone to get it scanned. My SGII didn't show any codes but they pulled a turbo overboost. SGII sucks as a code reader.
I had the same thing happen to me while towing. When heading up an incline, the wrench light came on, it also went into protection mode and I had to pull right over. I let it sit with the engine off for a minute and when starting, the wrench light was off and full power.
I did drive carefully home, only a few miles more.
It was the stuck unison ring on my turbo. P0299 code.
Buy an OEM new unison ring first before pulling it apart besides the o ring kit for re-installing. I reused my old unison ring the first time there was this issue and it lasted about 20k.
I really think the new unison ring has a slightly larger diameter to help avoid the same issue again. Can't be sure as I didn't measure before installing.
Here's the part numbers. I did add a Blue Spring at the same time, shown in the picture.

FYI, Ford replaced the unison ring on mine and it didn't help. They said everything was then in spec but still had to replace the whole turbo.
Thanks for all the help people, I have been away from the PC all day so too many different people to reply to individually so just want to say thanks to all in this post. I am going to clean the turbo and try that...I'll replace it if necessary but hoping just a cleaning or a new unison ring will do the trick.
I can't say enough good about the the people on this forum.....always ready to help at the drop of a hat, I only wish I had enough experience wrenching these engines to return the favor. Not that I am looking forward to doing anything to the engine....but I know the 6.0 ins't for the faint of heart.
