Pulled all the plugs and they were very sooty so it's running very rich, the oil smells like gas too.
Installed a new plastic battery box and bought a bigger battery. I have to get an oil change pump tomorrow because the hand pump I already have the tube is too big and it won't go down the dipstick tube. Cleaned all the grounds and the battery cable ends.
I owned a boat 20 years ago and loved it. Since we live right down the road from Lake Weiss it was almost a no brainer.
Bought a boat oil vacuum pump today since there seems to be no other way to drain the oil, Engine holds 5 qts and so far I have sucked out about 8 qts and it smells like straight gas. It is a very thin mixture so I hope I did not do any damage to the engine. No metal flakes so I have my fingers crossed.
Yea my tranny messed mine up but better it went out around the house than on the highway. That looks like my next major repair project but later on this year.
Changed the oil/oil filter and the oil pressure is 45/50 psi and the new plugs made it run a million times better. The other ones were worn the heck out. Now it will crank up when it is hot when before it would slowly turn over. Just hit the key now and it is running. I have it sitting level so we will see about the fuel getting into the oil.
I want an RV, but itll be parked in a garage, that I build, on some land, hooked to the power and septic so neighbors dont see a small RV next to a huge garage hahahahah
My 66 ford carb poured fuel out yesterday. Missing a piece as we found out after it ran for a minute. PO removed it for god knows why. So internet says JB weld, ill JB weld till I have the 351 ready.
Starter on the boat was acting funny when we bought it so I took it off and looked at it. It's trashed so I have a new one on order but it won't get here till sometime on friday. It was cheaper to order a new one than it was to take the old one to the starter shop in town. Hopefully that should be the last of the repairs for a bit.
Applied for 2 automotive service technician programs, one is with Jaguar/Land Rover and the other is with Audi. Both have a special transitioning service member program. My neighbor thinks one of the local dealerships is looking for a diesel mechanic so he is trying to hook me up with the service manager.

You really want to go back to wrenching fulltime? Remember you 50 not 25
It's all good,
I really enjoyed it when I worked at a car dealership before I joined the Army. Between the boat, RV and the other vehicles and equipment we have that's all I seem to do most of the time anyway. High end import mechanics make a pretty good living. The diesel mechanic at the local Dodge place makes over 20 bucks an hour, dayshift, close to home and works every other Saturday, I can hang with that.
