Hello my name is Robert I live in Vegas and my air bag started blinking 3-2 wed night also. I know you changed the wheel. I hate the steering wheel on my Aerostar it's a 94. The horn has 2 small buttons for the horn. Does your replacement wheel give you a better horn button. And how much of a headache was it to change. I'm glad you and others though clock spring I don't want to change my air bad control modgual under the dash let alone find one. My best price for a new spring was $129.00 I never thought of the clock spring going bad Monday night I smelled something burning. I thought it might have been the head light switch. Then the next time I drove it on wed the air bag lite lite up. Do you live in the Vegas area and if so is there an Aerostar club. I been scrounging for information to build a better westfilias van. I had a few Vw bus campers and a trashed westfilias rwd go's for 15 grand and a awd westfilias starts at 30 grand trashed and to convert rwd to awd 75 grand. The Aerostar is just about the same size and most parts including the pop-top fit.
Thank Robert Las Vegas lakes
Hi Robert. Actually, i used to like those 2 horn buttons and i thought it was gonna miss them. The steering wheel i got, the whole center (airbag) is the horn. I thought it was gonna be harder to push but it's actually very sensitive. Now, i dont miss those 2 horn buttons. The whole process was fairly easy. The hardest part was looking for a steering wheel that fit. I was looking for a specific wheel. I wanted a Mustang wheel. Anyway, i got the wheel out of a 1999 Ford Explorer and the clockspring from the same car since mine was bad and i couldnt find it anywhere. Oh, and the center part from a Mustang. The explorer clockspring fit perfectly on my Aero. It has 3 little plastic clips and only 2 clipped to the base on my Aero. The 3rd one had nothing to clip on since the base on the Aero is a little different. My original clockspring was attached with 3 torx screws though. Anyway, the explorer clockspring and steering wheel fit very good on my Aero (i made sure of that at the junk yard before buying the parts). Since the clockspring belonged to that wheel, it was plug and play on that side. But on the under the dash side of the clockspring i had to do some research and with the help of some members here i was able to get the horn and cruise control to work. In my case i didnt want the airbag, so i never plugged it in. When the clockspring went bad i starting getting the light flashing with the code. I think is 3-5. I forgot what the code meant since i dont care about the airbag.
Since you want to change the wheel anyway, you are better off getting both from the same car. Save you from figuring out the wires on the steering wheel side. Just make sure they fit first. Took me many hrs and many visits to different junk yards to do that. I mean, thats assuming you want an used steering wheel from another ford like i did.
Btw, I think if your airbag light is blinking, the module is already bad too. I can be wrong on this. But i read something like that online. Mine is still blinking and when i put the key on accessories it buzzes 5 sets of 5. I still have to find the way to get rid of that since i dont want the airbag. Mine is a 1992 Aero and i didnt want a 22 year old time bomb on my face every time i drive.
I live in Florida and also was looking for a club with no luck
Hope this helps.
Thank you!!
Yes, my dimmer is probably bad then since i have to turn it back and forth, like you said, to make it work. I'm gonna try to buy it new. I don't think i want that from a junk yard if i don't have to. Shouldn't be that expensive.
Thank you again!
