Any suggestions on where I can find this part? I've searched Ford Dealers and everyone tells me the part has been discontinued. My 1994 E250 Extended Van has a 5.8L V8 engine and has 180,000 miles on it. I'm getting a 32 code (no sound) and the horn doesn't work. It does not have cruise control, and one dealer told me the part number is F3UZ-14A664-A. He thinks that the clock spring for a 95-96 e250 (F5UZ-14A664-A) might fit, but he isn't sure, and the part could not be returned. If the connector is different on these two parts, I could cut off the connectors and splice in the other one and tape off the non-essential connectors. HELP!!
A clock spring is the device (inside the steering wheel hub) that allows the various wheel mounted switches (horn, cruise, maybe radio) to work even while the steering wheel is manipulated left and right.
Physically its a flat electrical ribbon that winds/unwinds on a spool as the wheel is turned. Kinda like fishing line on a spool and rod can go in/out.
OK, thanks, was just searching the web for that. I have a 1990 E-250, no cruise control, no airbags that is ready for the junkyard. I don't know if it will make a good donor or not but if the part is compatible it is still good to my knowledge.
Have you also checked with NAPA or similar parts sellers? I can't believe such a common part or its equivalent from Dorman, SMP etc etc isn't to be had somewhere?
My crash book from your year confirms the existing part number as correct, take that for what its worth.
As for compatibility of this part from different years determining this would take EVTM's of the different years. Ford was good about changing wire locations of the wiring harness connectors. Even though these would phycially fit and snap together the circuits being re-arranged somewhat renders them completely incompatible.
Apart from searching Rockauto.com etc etc or even eBay for a NOS correct part not sure how I can help. Perhaps user NumberDummy will chime in with superseded part numbers? He's an invaluable resource in these matters.
In a pinch you can add a push button to the dash and wire it up.
Maybe even upgrade the horn to one that says ah oog ah (or plays Dixie).
Thanks for your definition and your suggestion, Army Ret. I've already added a push button so I have a horn. My main concern is the air bag, so that's why I'd like to find a replacement clock spring.
Have you checked other ford lines for this part, reason being ford was the first to start the assemble line and I'm almost positive that the same part was used on the F line of vehicles between 92-97, I no my response is a bit late but if their are more People looking for this part I would start there.
I have the same problem with my 96 Towncar - the cruise buttons and horn work fine but not the radio and temp - I'm pretty sure it needs a clockspring and they're also discontinued.

These parts tend to be very vehicle specific, mainly due small changes in the wiring harnesses.
While Ford might not show them still available through their dealerships companies like Dorman et al should have them out the wazoo.
Calling NAPA etc would be my first bet as they're pretty much my go to people for good parts.
I have a 1992 E150 5.8L with cruse, horn and airbag. not working. I have searched the web high and low to find no one carries one for this van. I called my local ford dealer, he would not give me the part number, and he found on in Wisconsin for $243. out of my price range. but might have no choice. the parts houses want to original part number. but I don't have it out. I did ask the Number dummy for information and part number, but no response yet. any help here??
