Might take you up on that! If the computer changes and allows him to order both (chrome package and running boards) then my dealer is going to add it to my order. Although now I'm not as upset about it after doing some research. Plus I have a set of nice stainless running boards I'm sure I can fit up to the new rig. Kind of ready for a new look however since they don't make them any more (J&J Lighted) it definitely keeps it a one of a kind.

My local dealer said practically any item can be ordered ala carte to their service and body shop and installed. Ask your dealer about that.
Know why I dislike the moonroof? Because I live in hail storm country, and don't always get to park underneath cover when storms hit. You think those are going to be cheap to replace?
Or what about in 10 years with some age? Windows leak...solid aluminum panels don't.
I've drove Ford cars with moonroofs for many years and had no problems. I think moonroofs on trucks are...undesirable, but for reasons other than yours.
I had a panoramic roof bust and my insurance covered it 100%. Weather is usually nice where I'm at so I enjoy being able to open up the roof. I hate how it's thrown into a package though forcing it on so many people that won't really want it even though I do.
Our last 3 cars (including the MKC we just bought ) have had factory moon roofs. The first 2 all developed problems, especially with the plastic trim rings. On the T Bird it would unsnap itself and slide back and forth with the glass and rattle. On the last Lincoln it would just rattle. In order to fix, in either case, I would have to drop the headliner and I never got around to it in either case, but I did get annoyed with it in both cases. They are great for short trips around in the weather spring and fall. In the bright sun I always closed the cover. Through the years I have come to like a dark interior. It is easier on the eyes for longer trips. Mostly it comes down to personal preference.
Not all moonroofs are made as well as others. We had one on our 1996 Explorer Limited - kept that rig until 2010, great vehicle, never, ever had any issues with the roof.
I think nowdays the tracks and guides are typically all thin plastic and tend to break or rattle. We have the panoramic roof on our current Lincoln (2010 model) and it does not rattle, leak, or do anything other than work properly.
Fortunately for you guys, Ford does not "force" a moonroof on your in most cases!

No kidding! Of the new features available on this truck, I want the LED headlights most, and the moonroof second most. Unfortunately, its highly unlikely I'm going to be willing to pay for the Ultimate package which will exclude the possibility of me getting the LED lights, although I can still get the moonroof.

Its not fair!
Yeah, this packaging stuff sucks! To get the LEDs, you have to get navigation AND moon roof. I guess the LEDs are expensive.
I have the perfect solution. You get the Ultimate package, then give me your LED lights!

Haha, right. I don't think the LEDs are expensive at all - remember, they come standard on a $17k Corolla. That's why it irritates me so much that Ford is going to make you pay for top packages in order to get them. (Granted, the Ford version is nicer and probably brighter, but still...)
Ford knows the LED lights are going to be a big part of what makes this new truck appear ultra-modern and new...and they know the customer will want that, and so they make them pay. A few years into this generation, as more and more cheaper cars get LED lights as standard, Ford will probably make them standard as well.
Does anyone know if these LED headlamps include high beams as well? Or just low beams? I'm guessing its both.
That being said, I wonder if it is possible to retrofit these lights afterwards? With HID xenon lamps, sometimes it was, sometimes it wasn't. The car's computer typically had to be able to support them.
Part of me wants to place an order today so I can stop thinking about it. But I think I will wait a few months.
Not only do they force the moon roof but they also force the crew cab to get the LED's. I guess I want to see the LED's in action before I cry too much. They may not be worth all the whine, or they might really be a great safety feature in which case they should be available across the board!

I have thought about this as well. Would I be ale to order an XLT, then have my dealer order the Ford LED's? I imagine that would be a pricey option...more expensive than waiting around for someone to offer aftermarket replacements. Id love to order a Lariat with the Ultimate and Chrome package, upgrade to 20" wheels, and call it good. But I don't know if I can stomach a nearly $60,000 truck.
