It looks like it goes down to the transmission and when you push on it, it pivots down and looks like it pushes a linkage down below. It's never been hooked up and my ocd is getting the better of me. Tred looking for info for it but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Is this part of the kick out linkage? What's this parts purpose. 302 with auto 2wd. Thanks in advance..
Yes, that's the kickdown linkage for the automatic transmission.
It tells the tranmission to drop down into passing gear when you floor the gas pedal.
Your transmission could be either a C4 or a C6, probably a C4, but in either case, having it disconnected won't hurt the transmission, you'll only lose the kickdown feature.
Thanks guys, I thought that might be what it was since it literally kicks down a linkage on the tranny. What does it hook to on the carb(I would assume) and will it actually benefit me in any way to have it hooked up or can I just unhook from tranny and put it in the parts bin.
There should be a second arm where the throttle linkage hooks to the carb. It connects there.
If you have the correct carb and can hook it back up, I would. If you don't you only lose the kickdown to passing gear, you can do it manually though.
By having it disconnected you won't damage the tranny like you could on some other transmissions.

Thanks, yea, I hooked it up and the screw adjustment looks to be correct when you move carb linkage to wot, it engages the kick down. Now it's just a guessing game of why the po disconnected it or if it came disconnected and said screw it, I don't need it anyways..lol I guess I'll find out in the morning when I drive it to work on the interstate and I'll floor it one time to see if the tranny drops down a gear or not..lol
