Me and my dad were talking about my truck and what kind of carb I should replace the 1 bbl with, he didn't think that the 1 bbl had a kickdown and I don't remember hooking one up when I replaced the carb. When I do step on the gas though the tranny does downshift.
Can someone please ellaborate on this subject for me?
The 77 300 and c4 combo in my truck did have a kickdown lever.
However, when I pulling the tranny for a rebuild I slightly bent the lever. Once the tranny was reinstalled the bent lever was causing some shifting problems. A friend of mine who worked at a tranny shop told me I could just remove it, but I would lose my "passing" gear.
He was right, the truck would shift fine, but when I mashed the gas it wouldn't shift down. I'm surprised your truck still does so.
My dad and I went out and looked at it yesterday. I thought the kickdown was like a physical linkage that connects to the throttle, I had no idea it was just a spring and linkage the throttle knocks. Thanks for your reply though.

Your truck is supposed to have a kickdown rod, and the parts book pictures and text show one. It makes a difference in the confiuration of the rod depending on what automatic transmission you have, C-4 or C-6.
The kickdown linkage on your truck is NOT controlled by springs, but by an actual rod.

Yea, I just had no idea what it looked like, the throttle on my truck (C6) knocks a spring with a round plate on the end thats connected to the linkage. Maybe thats how I was trying to explain it.
That's correct. To adjust how quickly the kickdown actuates just turn IN or OUT the "mushroom" looking fixture on the rod. It is pushed backward (from the carb) by the throttle linkage.
