88 Bronco rear power window problems.

wolf, i had the same problem with my '84.......someone had said earlier about the plastic pieces on the latch posts....that was the problem with mine....the plastic pieces were there, but they were too big...when the tailgate latches, the latch clicks twice...it has to be closed to the second click for the rear window to work....mine would click once (closing the tailgate tight) but the window didnt work....i found a piece of plastic hose with a smaller o.d. and put it on the latch posts....fixed my probelm....hope this helps

also watch the gears in the power window...they tend to go bad

Well after looking at it good, there are a few things that need to be done.
1. One of the regulator assembly supports has rusted and broke so the whole thing is not secure.
2. The stud on the passenger side that holds the support cable for the tailgate is half way out, I need to retighten it.
After looking both Plastic parts are there, but when the drivers side latches it does not seem to latch TIGHTLY is seems loose, the passenger side does not even latch at all.
And how about tricking the safety switch so it thinks the tailgate is closed so I can operate the window without having to push in on it??Just incase I can't get the latches to work right I don't want to have to be pushing on the stupid gate everytime I want to use the window

Wolfman if you want to trick the safety you will need to find the wires to the switch and determine whether the switch opens or closes the circuit to indicate the gate is closed. I dont know off to of my head which. I will look at my haynes book in a little while and try to give you some more info.

Wolfman from looking at schematic it should have a normaly open switch. You will need a short accross the wires to make it think the gate is closed. Before you cut the wires look at the switch (I have not physicaly seen it) and if it can be removed do so and a zip tie or electical tape etc. to force it into the closed position. Then secure it to something so that it's not just dangling in the gate. If it cant be removed option 2 is cut the wires just leave enough slack to splice back later. This was a diagram for mine, a 96 model yours could be different. To check you will need an ohm meter if it is as described when the switch is depressed you will see a short accross the wires when it is not depressed you should see an open, or very high resistance. Hope this will help you in your quest.
