The is the Ford/Thompson type PS pump.
The shaft as you can see is not bad even though it looks not so pristine. But the shaft bushing is gouged, but having no experience don't know if I need to replace it, and where to find the part if I do. I'm surprised at the difference in the condition between the shaft and the bushing but I suppose that's the reason for the bushing in the first place. So, what do you think? Thanks again. Vic
Remans are cheep enough that it probably isn't going to be worth messing with it. Unless someone makes a rebuild kit it's hard enough to find hydraulic oil seals and you are going to need a front seal. When the pump was engineered the seal was likely too. It is the probably the mfgrs seal design, not just a run of the mill say 1/2 x 3/4 seal. No, it will be some odd ball making it next to impossible if not impossible to find. It's hard enough to find anyone who sells hydraulic oil seals but adding in that it's measurements are not standard save yourself the grief and just get a new one. I've been through this and Cardone will be of no help + they are always "jerks" on the phone making your bad situation worse by the time they "hang up" on you.
Agreed on getting a rebuilt PS pump for simplicity and expediency. They are only around $40 bucks and it will come with a warranty. If you can rebuild your existing pump, you don't get a warranty.
Once you put the pump back on, prime it BEFORE you put the belt on and crank the engine. Engine idle speed is much higher than the priming speed of a variable speed drill. Cavitation (air) in the pump/PS system can easily burn the pump up or damage it before the pump gets completely submerged in fluid. A damaged PS pump will have a constant and noticeable whine to it.

Ford didn't sell the bushing as a separate part, you have to buy the front plate to get it. They also had a seal and gasket set that includes all the seals and gaskets needed.
