Have you noticed any issue with the speedo or ODO that may or may not correspond with the hard shifting?
Your PCM is detecting a sensor issue, the most common ones that produce hard shifts are with the TPS or VSS, so pull codes and post up what you get.

Code 62 is excessive converter clutch slippage, from what I have seen on here that most likely means you need to replace the torque converter, that code would certainly put the PCM into protect mode which is what produces the harsh shifts.

The only 2 digit codes in 1994 were for the 4.9L with a standard transmission.
Also the DTCS 62, 628 AND/OR 1728 STORED IN MEMORY (CM) are covered in the TSB 98-4-19.
