Keyless Entry Question

I have just purchased the X not too long ago and it did not come with any key fobs from the owner. On my 2002 Ford X V10 6.8L is it just a matter of going to the Dealership and ordering a new set or is there more to it? I notice when I expose the under dash wiring on the driver side by removing the panel there was an after market alarm and keyless entry already installed and has been removed. So I'm wondering if they had to disable the OEM keyless entry or not.

My truck had something similar when I picked it up, a removed aftermarket alarm/remote start system.

I bought a couple of key fobs on eBay and followed the standard programming procedure which can be found in one of the sticky's at the top of this board. My keyless entry works just fine now.

So in your case I would at least give it a try, as the pair of keyfobs are pretty cheap online, the dealer will certainly charge some outrageous money for them though so I would steer clear.

What he said. Online they are $8-10 a piece and really easy to program...less than 5 minutes and that includes going to the 'fridge for a beer.

Thank you both, I did purchase a couple from
Amazon Amazon
last night and will arrive on Friday. I appreciate your help. I didn't know if the OEM keyless entry system had to be disabled in order to use the aftermarket one. I'm pretty new to and learning quite a bit from you guys here.

You don't need to disable anything. I got mine from Amazon too. Might want to run through the programming mode now before they arrive to verify if you can get Ex to cooperate entering the mode. Mine gave me a hard time. There is a thread about it if you run into trouble.

I got 1 remote and 2 keys when I bought mine recently. I bought off ebay 2 remotes and one key. About $25 IIRC. Followed instructions here and ended up with 3 working remotes and keys. Dealer cut the key for free!

Ok, Received Transmitters in the mail today after ordering 2 from Amazon with Prime shipping on Wednesday. I was able to put the truck in program mode without a hitch and programmed both transmitters within minutes.

I know it is on the forum in a couple of places but, here is the program instructions & link they sent with the transmitters (just so this is another place for resource in case someone else needs this):

Ford 3 button Remote control

Programming procedure for:
2000-2012 Excursion

1.Keep your foot off the brake pedal. (Ford Econoline only set parking brake)
2.Insert the key in the ignition and turn it from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds. On the 8th turn leave the ignition on RUN. When done correctly the door locks will cycle to signal entry into programming mode(off is where you can remove the key and run is the position just before the engine will start) If the door locks don't cycle the process is not being done correctly or the vehicle is not equipped with keyless entry.
3.Within 20 seconds press the lock button on all keyless remotes being programmed including any existing remotes. The doors locks will cycle to confirm successful programming of each remote.
4.Turn the ignition to the OFF position to end programming mode. Test all remotes to confirm successful programming.

Glad to hear it went well!

For anyone else coming across this thread if all the above doesn't work...

1)Try turning on windshield wipers...yes, seriously.
2)Try opening driver's side door.

Aaron, I appreciate the posted info, but just FYI, I cut out all the info that applies to all the other vehicles because if anyone with those vehicles finds that post through a search, I don't want them coming here to the Excursion forum to ask programming questions about their Windstar or their Five Hundred.

I was wondering if Ford has any aux channels on there keyless entry system? I remember years ago I had a remote started installed in my wife's Durango and the installer called and was able to use existing factory keyless entry system by attaching the remote starter to an aux channel on the OEM system. I would imagine if there was an extra channel it would probably be pressing the unlock and lock at the same time and hold for a period of 3 seconds or something like that. I was just curious before I make any other preparations. Any information would be appreciated....

I found this on
Amazon - Add on Ford Remote Starter Amazon - Add on Ford Remote Starter
. Has anyone tried one of these yet? I would like to keep my Ford OEM system in operation and add on a remote starter to the OEM system.

Man. that's a great question! I can't recall ever seeing anyone ask that question (but my memory is mush, so take that into consideration, LOL) here at FTE.

Aaron, since those of us in the Ex forum love to help other people spend their money, I strongly agree with the majority here (they just haven't posted yet ) who suggest you should buy the unit, create a "How To" install thread, and let us know how it works out for ya!!
