Just got the missus an 08 Mariner and boy is she happy.
I have a quick question though. The truck was almost positively a rental, and didnt have a whole lot of options. The dealer ran vin and it did not come with remote keyless entry from factory. Now, I hate aftermarket remote starts, and the built in key fob on the key looks pretty cool.
My question is this: Can I buy the keyless entry key and have the module reset? The service at the stealership is trying to press me into the aftermarket since they cost the same as the keyless keys ($180.00). I run a salvage yard, so I have access to parts, and I can get a new keyless entry key blank for $80.00. The truck only came with one key, and we need another key anyways, so I would give her the keyless, and I can use the regular one.
Any thoughts, or am I stuck with what the aftermarket has to offer?
If the 2008 is like the 2010, looking in the 2010 wiring diagram book, the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) receiver looks like it is an integral part of the SJB (Smart Junction Box). I don't know if Ford had different SJB's depending on whether keyless entry, which is the remotes and the door keypad, was ordered as an option.
A Ford Parts dept. person should be able to look up a 2008 SJB and see if there are different part #'s for with/without remote keyless entry.
