Ford Sync wont update
I was bored and decided to attempt a software update via the usb process as described on the Ford Owner website to sync on my 2014 F-150, and was having similar difficulties as reported by everyone else, so I used the chat support, and here is that transcript:
Please wait for a SYNC Agent to respond.
Kavi says:
Hello Mark. My name is Kavi. How can I help you?
Mark says:
Hi I am attempting to update the Sync software version in my truck via the usb process, and following published instructions, but sync shows "no media file".
Kavi says:
I can help with that!
Kavi says:
Were you able to find INSTALL APPLICATIONS?
Mark says:
Yes I currently have DL3T-14D544-AD and am trying to install DL3T-14D544-AG
Mark says:
I downloaded DL3T-14D544-AG on a usb stick, but when I plug it in and go to the aux port, it does not recognize.
Kavi says:
Ok. I understand this. What did SYNC Say after you found INSTALL APPLICATIONS in the SYNC Settings?
Mark says:
I don't think I found INSTALL APPLICATION in sync settings, that was not in any directions that I have. I can go out to my truck now, my wifi should work.
Kavi says:
Ok. Try using these instructions:
1. Insert the USB and press the Phone Button. You will either see PHONE MENU then PHONE REDIAL or CONNECTING.
1a. If you see CONNECTING then Scroll to RETURN and press OK.
1b. If you see PHONE MENU then PHONE REDIAL scroll to SYSTEM SETTINGS and press OK.
2. Scroll to SYSTEM SETTINGS and press OK.
3. Scroll to ADVANCED and press OK.
4. Scroll to INSTALL APP and press OK.
NOTE: To scroll through the menus use the seek arrow buttons.
Mark says:
I think it may be working it says Installing Application now...
Mark says:
I believe it worked, it said installation complete.
Mark says:
Is there a way to check?
Kavi says:
Wait for the second Installation complete message.
Kavi says:
After that, you can take the USB out and check the FPN in the vehicle. Do you know these steps already?
Mark says:
No I have never done an update like this since I got this truck...can you send?
Kavi says:
Sure!
Kavi says:
Here are instructions for your FPN:
1. Press the Phone button. You will see PHONE MENU then PHONE REDIAL.
2. Scroll to SYSTEM SETTINGS, press OK.
3. Scroll to ADVANCED, press OK.
4. Scroll to SYSTEM INFO, press OK.
5. Scroll to FPN NUMBER, press OK.
Note: To scroll through the menus use the SEEK arrow buttons.
Kavi says:
Your FPN should read: DL3T-14D544-AG
Kavi says:
Can I assist with anything else today?
Mark says:
I don't think so give me just another second to check the version...
Mark says:
I just got that 2nd update message
Kavi says:
Ok. Sure!
Kavi says:

have tried multiple times and have done master resets and factory defaults. The only way to get it back to a non installation in progress state is to disconnect the battery

you need the app “Unarchiver”
right click the zip file of the download. Open with Unarchiver. It will unzip the file. It appears next to your zip file. Double click the new file to open it. You should see three files. Auto install, sync my ride and another one. Copy all three of these or your formatted usb drive.
when all that is done you can install in your ford.
I have 3 USB drives that are empty and have been formatted to FAT32. I extracted the files and placed them on the usb drive. I have confirmed each one that they are there. I have re-downloaded the file 3 times and extracted them and went thru the whole process several f
When I have the truck running and radio on, usbb inserted and go thru the menu to the 'Install Application?' it says Files not found.
I have spent about and hour messing with this. Do I need to go to the dealer? Anyone else have these issues?
Thanks.
I tried to update my 2012 F150 today and the ford website won't let me download. I called and the lady said that is because I still have the factory sync version and there are too many versions between and wants me to go to my local dealer. I called the dealer and they want 1 hour labor $195 to upgrade. Is there anyone that can help me as I have tried to download a zip file for 4.6 however it says file not found. Not sure what to do but $195 to upgrade a thumb drive isn't right to me....
